Get Inspired - Pretty Pink Peonies Week 2

Hi Everyone, happy Saturday!  Its my turn to contribute for our Get Inspired column over at MFP Speedy TV!

Today I am using a lovely photo provided by MariLynn last week:

So pretty!  Here is what I came up with:

I enjoyed making this card, and I used a Mark's Finest Papers' set called Lotus Blossoms.  Its such a pretty set.

I chose two patterns from a 6x6 patterned paper book then decided on a kraft base.  I trimmed the pieces, inked and distressed the edges, then stamped and embossed my images on a white panel.  I water coloured the image, when I did this I thought the colour I chose was brighter than it turned out but I like how it goes with the colours in the paper.  I adhered the main panel to the card with foam tape, added twine, foam taped the image panel, and added some stick pins and self adhesive pearls.  For the inside I used leftovers from the same patterned papers and a pretty sentiment from the stamp set.

What do you think, are you feeling inspired? If you are we'd love it if you leave a link in the comments! :)

Get Inspired - Neon Brushstrokes

Hi everyone!  Its Saturday which means its time for some cardmaking inspiration!

This week its my turn to share something I've found inspirational. Of course I turned to Pinterest, and I found this lovely picture that originally came from craftgawker.com.

The main thing I was inspired by in this photo is the brush strokes of neon.  This is what I came up with:

I started by taking a white cardstock panel, and brushing some bright neon acrylic paint in stripes.  I found the paint at the dollar store, so if you want to play with neon you can find these supplies inexpensively.  Once dry I stamped and heat embossed the image from a Mark's Finest Papers  set called Nature's Brushstrokes, probably my favourite mini set of all time!  As you know I love jute twine, especially on a CAS card, so I used my craft knife to carefully cut slits along the sides of the image, and then a yarn needle to thread the twine through the holes.  A few rhinestones finished the panel off, and the panel was foam taped to the card base.

Please don't forget to go to the Get Inspired page at MFP Speedy TV next week to see what MariLynn does with this image.  She and I are so different n our approaches so I can't wait to see what she does! Feel free to share your own creations with us by linking them below.  :)

Get Inspired - Rustic Flowers (Week 2)

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday! Its my turn to contribute for our Get Inspired column over at MFP Speedy TV!

Last week MariLynn was inspired by a magazine photo:

The colours are really pretty and I love the roses.  Here is what I came up with:

I used the MFP stamp set called Love, Love, Love.  I started by stamping and embossing the image on cream, and coloured the image with water based markers.  I thought a kraft base , and some patterned paper was used for the background.  Originally I was going to work with a wood grain background, but I decided the lace pattern was vintagey enough to have a similar feel. Jute twine, and some self-adhesive pearls finished things off, although I couldn't resist adding a bit of glitter gel pen. :)

Get Inspired - City Reflections

Hi everyone!  Its Saturday which means its time for some cardmaking inspiration!  This is a long weekend in Canada as Victoria Day is on Monday.  As such I am travelling with my family so this post is slightly shorter than usual.  Some fun things for you to look at though!

Yet again my inspiration came from Pinterest.  Can't go wrong with that site! Here is an interesting photo I found:

Another cool glasses pic .. or as another pinner said, " seeing the World through Hipster eyes ", ha ha.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the person to credit for this awesome photo.  If you like click here to see the original pin.  Here is what I came up with:

I used a Mark's Finest Papers stamp set called Big City.  I love the combination with the Lifestyle Crafts embossing folder. A colour scheme of silver black and white was used to echo the colour scheme in the photo, and I added gems to kind of mimic the stars and the moon.

I hope you have found my creation inspiring!  Don't forget to go to the Get Inspired page at MFP Speedy TV next week to see what MariLynn does with this image.  In the meantime have a look around you and see if anything inspires you.  Inspiration to create can come from anywhere!  Feel free to share your creations with us.  :)

Get Inspired - Spring Blossoms (Week 2)

Hi Everyone, happy Saturday!  Its my turn to contribute for our Get Inspired column over at MFP Speedy TV!

Today I am using a lovely photo provided by MariLynn last week:

So pretty!  Here is what I came up with:

I enjoyed making this card, and I used two Mark's Finest Papers' sets: Works of Art for the image, and Glad Glads for the sentiment. Both sets are lovely.

I started with some spraying and masking for the background, and stamped and heat embossed the image.  I did use some white gel pen to highlight the blossoms even though its really hard to see. I also added some glitter pen.  I dry embossed some vellum to make it look like lace, and distressed the edges. The sentiment, ribbon, more glitter, and some rhinestones finished everything off. Similar techniques (minus the spraying) were used for the inside of the card.

What do you think, are you feeling inspired? If you are we'd love it if you leave a link in the comments! :)

Get Inspired - Rainbow Feathers

Hi everyone!  Its Saturday which means its time for some cardmaking inspiration!

This week its my turn to share something I've found inspirational. Of course I turned to Pinterest, and I found this beautiful picture from Caseycreative on Etsy.

Colorful Feather Watercolor Drawing/Painting

Here is what I came up with:

I decided to use Mark's Finest Papers  set called "Be a Showoff" and play with some watercolouring. After stamping and embossing my image I used my water brush and some markers to add colour in rainbow order.  Once dry I added some glitter pen, rhinestones, and doodled lines.  I was going to keep things white on white, but I decided in the end that a black frame balanced things out nicely.

Please don't forget to go to the Get Inspired page at MFP Speedy TV next week to see what MariLynn does with this image.  There are so many different things she could do! Feel free to share your own creations with us by linking them below.  :)

Get Inspired - Peach Flowers (Week 2)

Hi Everyone, happy Saturday!  Its my turn to contribute for our Get Inspired column over at MFP Speedy TV!

My card this week uses inspiration provided by MariLynn last week, a photo of these lovely peach coloured flowers.

While the flowers aren't the same I thought it would be a fun opportunity to use the image from MFP stamp set called "Friends".  Here is what I came up with:

This was a fun card to make.  I recently got a new die set from Lifestyle Crafts, and I thought it would be fun to make a cut out in the main panel with the sentement stamped on the layer underneath.  As I started to assemble my Cuttlebug sandwich with the die, I decided it would be even better if the sentiment was stamped on the inside of the card.  I achieved this by layering the card front and the main panel (making sure the card was not folded so as not to cut through the back of the card) and adhering them with washi tape so they didn't shift. I then put the die in the spot I wanted and used more washi tape to secure it in place.  It took a few passes through my Cuttlebug for the die to fully cut both pieces of card stock, but the end result worked out perfectly.

To ensure the sentiment was in the right place, I actually stamped through the window in the card base.  I used my Fiskars stamp press to stamp the sentiment so that the grid on the stamp press would help ensure the sentiment was straight.  I definitely didn't want to have to start over because my sentiment was crooked!

The rest of the card was fairly simple, using waterbased markers to colour the image, and adding some gemstones, white gel pen, and jute twine to finish the card off.

Are you inspired to create? If so please link your creation below, we would love to see what you come up with!

Get Inspired - Lace

Hi Everyone!  Its Inspiration Saturday and its my turn to contribute some ideas to the Get Inspired page at MFP Speedy TV.

For the last year or so I've been really into knitting, and last summer I dabled in knitting lace.  The great thing about lace is that it is light weight, a bit challenging, and when you are done the end result looks amazing. Spring is coming (or so they say) so I've been thinking about a lace project I might want to work on as the weather gets nicer.  As a result I've been looking at lace pictured on Pinterest (surprise!).  I don't think I would want to knit this, but it's really cool and pretty:

I Just love this!  You can find the link to the pin here.  Here is what I came up with:

I used two  Mark's Finest Papers' stamp sets - "Birds of the Orient" for the inside and "Birdcages" for the outside.

I created the card by die cutting the card base and the main panel, and dry embossing some vellum.  The sentiments were heat embossed and the card was assembled.  I added some ribbon, rhinestones, and white gel pen to finish things off.

This was a fairly simple card to make, but I think its really pretty. Are you inspired to create?  If so why not let us know what you make in the comments below. In the meantime don't forget to go to the Get Inspired page at MFP Speedy TV next week to see MariLynn's take on the  image I've chosen!
