Use it Tuesday #43 Being Thankful AND a DT call!

Its the second Tuesday of the month so that means its time for another Use it Tuesday challenge!  With the American Thanksgiving on its way next week we are asking you make a project that is all about being thankful!  Here is what I came up with:

With Canadian Thanksgiving already past, I decided to make a thank you card for this challenge, you can never have too many!  I started with these papers.  They come from a huge paper pack by Tim Coffey that I've had for a while.  I've used some pages from the pack before, but this red with beige sheet is what attracted me to the pack in the first place, but I've been saving it for something special.  I decided that it was finally time to cut into it!

Once I had patterns I chose other card stock to coordinate and cut everything down to size. I inked the edges and assembled the main panel, adding ribbon and adhering it to the card base.  I stamped my mini panels used my corner rounder on them, and foam taped them over the ribbon.  I would consider this stamp set hoarded as well, as it is a favourite that I haven't used in a long time.  Since I use a lot of clear stamps now I don't always turn to my wood mounted stamps right away, but these images were perfect for this card.

With the images adhered I added some glitter pen, and finally some pearls.  The lines of pearls are actually preassembled strips that are from my stash.  I don't usually use preassembled gems or pearls as I always think "I can do that myself" but then I never do, lol.  In this case I cut the strips to make the perfect corner embellishments.

The inside was kept simple with an inked piece of kraft matted with dark brown and some of the remaining pattern.

Craft Your Passion #136 Clean and Simple

Its another Monday so that means its time for another Craft Your Passion Challenge.  This time we are asking you to create a clean and simple project.  Here is what I came up with:

Clean and simple is not my usual go-to style but, I do like to make CAS projects from time to time.  This, however, usually only happens when I am inspired to make a CAS project, so creating one on demand is a bit more difficult for me.  Once I got going though everything came together nicely.  I started with an image from Bugaboo Stamps.  They have a series of stamps called "Love Blocks", and I chose the one called "With Love".  I thought the pretty simplicity of it would be perfect for this challenge.

I printed the image on white card stock, trimmed it out and corner rounded the corners.  I inked the edges for a bit of interest and added some glitter pen to the image.  I decided to keep the colour scheme fairly simple, so I chose a white card base and cut a panel of white that I dry embossed with my Cuttlebug.  I inked the edges of the panel and the card front, and added some ribbon to the panel before adhering it to the card base with foam squares.  I added a bow to the middle strip of ribbon and added a few hat pins.

I love how this card turned out, which leads me to believe I should make CAS cards more often!  :)

Happy Birthday To Me!!! And the MFP Fall card swap.

Hi Everyone!  Today is my birthday and to celebrate I was going to show you a birthday card I'd made, but I didn't have time to make one. For that reason I thought I'd show you some cards I made for the Fall Card Swap at MFP Speedy TV.  Its really fun because you send 4 cards made with an MFP set, and you get back 3 different card and an MFP set.  What's better than that?

As you can tell by the title the swap theme is 'fall' so as I was thinking of what to do for my swap cards I had remembered a card I had forgotten to post about:

I actually had the idea to make this card for the October blog hop as it uses one of the October sets - this one is called Autumn Splendor - but I didn't get it done on time, and then I didn't get around to posting it by itself.  It's too bad as I really like this one, and it isn't difficult to put together.  When I was thinking of a an idea for a fall themed card that I could make multiples of this is the one I thought of.  Here are the ones I made for the swap:

You can see how similar they are, but there are subtle differences.  This is because I didn't have enough of the supplies I used to make the first card to replicate four times.  Instead of the chocolate brown patterned paper on the first one, I substituted dry embossed chocolate card stock.  I also used different brands of coloured card stock, but the stuff I found in my stash is close enough.  On the swap card I used a different embossing folder on the orange that would better coordinate with the embossing folder I used on the chocolate brown piece.  Also, I didn't have any of the brown leaf ribbon left, or the narrow chocolate brown, so on the swap card I substituted some wider brown ribbon, green leaves, and instead of layering another colour of ribbon I just used twine.  I like the new version just as much!  Here they are side by side for comparison:

The one on the left is the original, the one on the right the new version.  I like the new version because the colours are slightly brighter, although I do like the pattern on the first.  When I water coloured the image on the second card I made the colours brighter without realizing it.  It worked out really well!

With the original card I didn't decorate the inside, but since the swap cards were going to others I didn't want leave them undone.  This is what I came up with:

There are two different colours, because I used what was leftover from the front of the card.  On the original card I was using a 6x6 pack, on the second group of cards I was using 12x12 sheets. I didn't have enough left to make the mats all the same colour so instead of cutting into a new sheet two cards had orange centres  two cards had green centres.  Waste not, want not, lol!  :)

Craft Your Passion #135 Hexagons

Another Monday has rolled around so its time for another Craft Your Passion Challenge.  This week we are asking you to use hexagons on your project. As it happens, I love hexagons, so I had fun making this week's card:

I started with the really cute image from The Paper Shelter called "Cockatoo Rules".  The Paper Shelter images are great because the include a blank one along with one already coloured, and since I really liked the colours they used on the image I decided to use the coloured one.  I then found a piece of this hexagon paper from a Pink Paislee Mistables pack, and blended some chalk inks to coordinate with the picture. Finally I added a bit of bronze shimmer mist for interest.

Once the patterned paper was inked to my liking, I matted it with some kraft and added washi tape and ribbon.  This panel was adhered to the card and then I printed the selected image on kraft, trimmed it down and corner rounded the edges.  The edges were inked with green, then brown, then matted on green card stock.  I foam taped the piece over the ribbon.

The sentiment was stamped on more kraft also inked with green and brown, then I added some glitter pen to the sentiment and the image.  The sentiment was foam taped onto the card front, then I added some green buttons to the card front that had been threaded with jute twine.

Lastly I stamped the 'party' stamp on kraft, added some glitter to the image, and trimmed it out.   The piece was foam taped in the appropriate spot. Once the entire card was finished I added some Glossy accents to the party bubble, to the cockatoo's glasses, and to the headlight on the motor bike.  Of course its important to do this step after the inside is finished so that you don't touch the Glossy Accents by accident (I could be speaking from experience, lol), then you leave your project in a flat spot overnight to dry.  It takes a while but its so worth it.  I did end up getting a few air bubbles on the 'party' embellishment but I still think it turned out ok.  Glossy Accents takes practice!

For the centre of the card I matted some inked kraft with brown card stock and stamped my sentiments in brown ink.  I added some glitter pen to the letters and stars, then adhered the panel to the inside of the card.

This was such a fun card to make!  I love playing with ink and my hands were definitely colourful by the time I was done. :)

An MFP featured set, a little late...

Hi All!  If you followed the Mark's Finest Papers Blog Hop the week before last, not just my posts but the rest of the DT posts as well, you may have noticed that there was one set that I didn't contribute some cards for. That would be because the set came to us a little later than the rest of the sets, and since I live in Canada it actually took longer for me.  I only got it this past Monday and I haven't had a chance until now to work with it.  For this reason I have two cards to show you today using the set called "Enjoy the View":

This is a really fun set to work with.  With a bit of imagination this set could be used for a ton of different projects.  My first card could be used for a graduation, a new job, or for any one that could use a bit of a pat on the back.

I started with the patterned papers, and chose some coordinating card stock and cut everything down to size.  I stamped my sentiments for the inside and outside with Versamark ink and heat embossed with gold, then also stamped the decorative strip under the sentiments in the same way.  All of the pieces of patterned paper and card stock were inked in creamy brown, and then the sentiment panels were distressed with a distressing tool.

I matted each patterned piece with green card stock, and added some washi tape.  Ribbon was added to the smaller patterned piece, then it was foam taped to the larger patterned piece.  The panel was adhered to a kraft card base.  Before adding the sentiment a bow was added to the ribbon, and a die cut scalloped piece was adhered.  The sentiment was added with foam tape and some pins were added to the bow.

For the centre of the card I matted the sentiment panel with some patterns and one more piece of green.  This panel was adhered to the card and another scalloped piece was added.

I really like this card and this set.  I love that MFP sets always have so many sentiments to choose from, so you aren't tied to using the image if you don't want too.

Once this 'non image' example was finished I really wanted to use the window stamp so I decided to use it on my second card.

Again I started with the patterns.  These patterns are on a smaller scale so I wanted to keep things more simple so I used a white card base.  I inked the patterns with creamy brown and added ribbon, then adhered the panel to the card base.

For the main image I stamped the window on white, then stamped it again on some plain copier paper.  I used my craft knife to trim out the window panels on the thinner paper and used this as a mask.  I tacked the mask to the main image so that it wouldn't shift, and stamped the tree image from another loved MFP set "All is Calm" over the mask twice without re-inking the stamp in between.  I sprayed two shades of shimmery mist to mimic snow, lifted my mask, then dried the piece with my heat gun. Once the image was dry I coloured the window with an alcohol marker and trimmed it out.  Foam tape was used to adhere the window to the card.

For the centre of the card I layered some inked white over another pattern, stamped my sentiment in black and added some patterned scraps.
